Elbaum-
What's going on. I was reading something about the debate and then totally remembered that you were probably blogging about it and was very interested in what Seniors in high school have to say about it as opposed to the people I will be talking to about the debate.

In terms of the debate,
It's getting to the point of no return for McCain. His Palin surge is dieing out because she hasn't been able to continue to increase the excitement and so he doesn't have the Big Mo! If McCain doesn't come out swinging tonight, it's gonna be hard for him to make it out of the gate later on.

Jay! Welcome back!

I'm with you on McCain. A tie is a loss for him (remember me saying that about Hillary last year).

FYI. I showed this clip in class today

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ffbFvKlWqE

Who will have a "Clinton connection" moment like this today? Who will seem out of touch?

7:47 PM

i dont see how a 70+ year old millionaire whose wife wears $300,000 outfits can connect to the average middle class american.

8:01 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i think McCain has to really kick butt tonight....

8:01 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

he'll be Clinton for sure!

8:01 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

only 80 voters

8:02 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Will Mac even look at BO during the debate?

Will Obama use the word "victory"?

Will Mac say "Middle Class"?

8:03 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

what could he possibly be writing down already?

8:04 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

love this guys glasses...

8:04 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I've noticed obama says thank you alot

8:04 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm watching at hulu.com, so I should be able to blog as we go. =D

8:05 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Obama says the word middle class.

8:06 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hi becky!

8:06 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

that aig thing is absolutely ridiculous..not only should they be fired but there bonuses should definitely be taken back

8:06 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think Mac's first answer was very Clinton-like

"I feel your pain!!!!"

8:07 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i totally agree wioth Marnie. And, i kinda like McCain's answer now....

8:08 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Marnie,

How can the govt fire people in a private company???

8:08 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

absolutely not. it's more of a "yeah, it's hurting the american people", but i'm doing just fine with my 12461289746 houses and cars.

8:08 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

McCain's connecting well right now... Obama needs to step it up.

8:08 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

that's funny/ironic elbaum, cus didn't you say this is the same type of debate clinton did well in that made everyone including bush41 know bush had no chance

8:09 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

mcCain is totally connecting much better right now

8:09 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mac says that he'd put an Obama supporter on his cabinet as Treasury Sec.

Hmmm

8:10 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i think mccain definitely got people's attention...

8:10 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

yeah, i know that's why i said should be fired which clearly won't happen though considering the owner was obviously just as involved

8:11 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i love how no one really answers the questions.

8:12 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Obama is doing a good job appealing to the people. Macs trying, but he just doesn't connect.

and haha, "cronies"

8:12 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

OHH SNAP. Mac goes after BO for having shady friends.

IT's ON!!!

8:13 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

McCain didn't even come close to answering that question. He is talking about what happened, not what he will do to fix it. The questions demanded specifics and was given none.

8:13 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i know. I wish they really would just answer the question

8:13 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

McCain with no American flag on his lapel...subtle yet noticeable

8:13 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ah! It's so hard to listen and comment at the same time!

(Hi, Olivia!)

8:13 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

going after friends...very nice. not

8:13 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

hahaha the gloves have come off

8:14 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

McCain just did the "Step towards the person" strat. Now all we need is to see him make the "I just got served" Bush face.

8:14 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ka-POW "not surprisingly"

8:14 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

"I've got to correct a little bit of senator mac's history...not surprisingly" THE GLOVES ARE OFF!

8:15 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh, diss... "I'm going to have to correct some of Senator McCain's history, not surprisingly..."

8:15 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Rose,

That face was pretty funny

8:15 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i hate that condescending smile of mac's

8:16 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

obama is doing pretty good right now.

and it is soooo on.

8:16 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hmmmm....but the economy still needs to stabilize.

8:16 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i think Obamas weak...

hes just a liberal elitist that knows nothing about real world america. All he cares about is hope and change, but most americans just care about fueling their car or keeping their job. his talk is too idealistic. also, he is way tooooo liberal. he voted in a liberal way about 98% in the senate. America is about coming to a compromise. If he becomes president, well see the same old washington and absolutely no change...hes all talk, no substance

8:18 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

The economy is going to get worse before it gets better.

Mr. E - How long does it take for a plan to be put into action once its concieved? (On average)

8:18 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

it's all about getting rid of the "cronie-ism"
mac praising the workers, "innocent bystanders"

8:18 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Twice McCain has used "crony". Chance he brings up Obama's friendship with some people less than admirable?

8:18 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dammit. My streaming video thing froze up for twenty seconds, and I missed a whole chunk of Obama's speech.

8:19 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Obama's narrative:

McCain=Bush

The man knows how to stay on message

8:20 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

obama is absolutely not an elitist. he, if anything is exactly what the republicans want americans to do. he was not well off as a child and managed to pull himself up "by the bootstraps" which is the republicans response to everything. he has worked hard in his political career to make change because that is what the american people want. eight years of economic ruin is enough. things need to take a turn for the better and improve.

8:20 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

D-Rose...Great question. Depends on the plan. This "bailout" plan will be pretty quick in execution

8:21 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

GO OBAMA

the day i have some old guy as president is the day i move to canada

8:21 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

my mom likes obama because she thinks that he can talk to everyone

8:21 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ariel and Alina

Obama is inexperienced..He;s got NO foreign policy experience.

Please defend him on that issue

8:22 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i think that's a big and very good point of obamas. People don't like bush. Obviously. people do not want another bush government. If people believe McCain is bush, why will they vote for hime

note: I am NOT saying mccain is bush

8:22 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

It seems as if McCain is taking speaking tactics right from clinton.

McCain needs to stop attacking Obama and answer the questions...

8:23 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Pork Barrel:

Federal money for local projects

8:23 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

obama might not, but what about biden?

8:23 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

steffi, that's all he can do, talk

8:23 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

You haven't gotten to pork barrel yet E?

8:23 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

D-Rose,

I like the attacks man. He needs a big win

8:23 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

then move to canada

8:23 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mac's connecting now. He looks straight at the people he's talking to.

8:23 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

tom.....joe biden has plenty though
therefore the obama administration will not be lacking in the foreign policy department. look it up.

8:24 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

he doesnt need to have foreign policy experience, thats why he picked biden, who is a foreign policy boss

8:24 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

obama looks fresh and new, but if you look at his record he is the perfect example of a partisan politician. he is so way to the left. and when has he made change????? When has he really acted on change and hope? tons of hope in his speeches, but actions?

8:24 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

the attacks are nice, but I want to hear his actual opinion not just a stream of attacks

8:25 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

what exactly is clean coal technology?

8:25 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

So you liberals defend your guys lack of FP experience in a Post 9/11 world by pointing to his VP?

WHy not Biden for President then?

That's all you guys got??? This guy is a Freshman

8:25 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

"Just like a family has to prioritize." That's good connection right there.

8:26 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

How effective is the Vice President really? Cheney was one of the most influence but will that trend continue? Will Palin/Biden have as much as role in policy making or are they merely there to help pull in certain states and certain voters?

8:26 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

ELBAUM!!!! !he brought up the gas price of the region....you called it.

8:26 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

the democrats control congress so why does obama keep blaming the repub/mccain for the deficit

aside from the fact that he's ignorant

8:27 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Exactly where im at. Attacks are nice but i want answers to these questions.

8:27 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

okay, defiently agree with Obama. Energy is soooo priorty number one.

8:27 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Is it more effective to look at the one person who asks the question, or to look at the entire audience?

8:28 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

the talk is getting to the people though. mentioning the gas price and education makes it easier for people who aren't into politics more reletable

8:28 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

"we" liberals are not defending his lack of FP knowledge but rather proving there is plenty of FP experience that will be in the White House.

8:28 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

so i guess there is no example of Obama making any change? hmmm...again, hes all talk. and people say palin has no substance

8:28 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

mccain is getting gutted like a fish

8:29 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

mccain is actually doing awesome

8:29 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

agreed, mccain is doing really well

8:30 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

spending freeze???
what about education?
and the number of veterans is growing...

8:30 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i think both have very good points

8:30 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

McCain the multi-tasker

8:30 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Way to go macdaddy

8:31 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

really anonymous???? not according to every single analyst on CNN. Oh, but im sure you are more of an expert on debates then the former presiidentaial advisors who are the analysts.

8:31 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

drill baby drill

8:32 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

off shore drilling for sure! until we find efficient alternative fuel sources.

8:32 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

mr e... sorry but men can't multi task

8:32 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ouch..I'm rooting for Obama, but he just faltered baddddd. He lost his flow for a second there.

Do we only need clean coal tech. though? Aren't there other alternatives that we can use?

8:32 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

yes, yes i am.

8:32 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

drill? that's the worst idea i have ever heard

8:32 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

His ears are big!...doubling the peace corps...sounds like it will cost

8:33 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

obama's trying to emphasize the incorporation of today's youth in our society. very cool.

8:33 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Obama's favorite word is "and." I really really really liked what he just said about the army and volunteering.

8:33 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i like obama's idea of the bigger expansion of the peace core

8:34 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

good point of obama's abotu all contributing

8:35 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

if you dont need help, then you get to pay more tax. sounds like fun

8:35 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mac called Obama Herbert Hoover!!!

WOW!

8:36 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

THATS THE BUSH LOOK ON OBAMA RIGHT NOW

8:36 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

point for mccain...relating obama's plans to those of herbert hoover

8:36 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

anonymous, i'd rather that then people who do need help paying more taxes

8:36 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

yeah yeah
obama has the bush look!

8:37 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

wow, mccain, wow. that was good!

8:37 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i remembering discussing about the small business tax cuts in class

8:37 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

mccain just called out obama with that no taxes with a bad economy line. how will he respond

8:37 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wouldn't doubling the tax refund put us in further national debt? Am I just completely lost?

8:37 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

ha...they won't let obama speak

8:38 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

ooo no chance for obama to respond. but obama's doing the palin strategy and changing the topic of the new question

8:39 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Obama's on the defense...not a good sign

8:39 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think that if Mac is elected, he'll find that he CAN'T completely cut spending. It would be a very bad move if he doesn't help the people who need help. It would make more sense to increase taxes on the wealthy, tighten loopholes in corporation tax laws, etc, so that the government has more money with which to fund necessary programs.

8:40 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i think obama's going to blast back to mccain

8:40 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

elbaum...wrong call on macs outfit for tonight

8:41 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yea Obama. You make 250k your taxes gotta go up!

Fair is Fair!

8:41 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

say it like clinton did in 92 obama... trickle down econ doesn't work

8:41 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i agree with Becky. There's no way we can completely cut spending

8:41 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i want to be poor if obama wins because then the governments going to do everything for me

8:41 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

did obama forget that producing taxes for big bussinesses will just increase competitiveness making more jobs..

8:41 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

um didn't we have a democratic congress for half of the past 8 years?
and mccain namedropping reagan, one of the greatest presidents of all time

8:41 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

mccain is addressing the audiance as "my friends". doin it on purpose?

8:42 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

and how long has mccain been in washington for? obama has barely had any time to actually take on the party leaders... what a stupid comment by mccain

8:42 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Is anyone watching this debate on CNN? What is the chart in the middle depicting?

8:42 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

unbelievable...obama love fest in here

8:43 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Congress has only been democratic for the past 2 years not four, it switched at the midterm elections, not at the end of Bush's first term

8:43 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

not that unbelievable..just a bunch of liberal parents raising their kids in illinois

8:43 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

STOP CALLING ME YOUR FRIEND MCCAIN!!!!!
p.s the wonderful Ronald Reagan? please, trickle down does NOT work.

8:44 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

McCain is distancing himself from Bush, and has mentioned Lieberman 3 times already...I'm gonna guess at least 3 more times throughout the debate

8:44 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

mccain speaking from experience on nuclear power and energy reform...points

8:44 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

No its just a liberal teacher brain washing his students

8:44 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

mccain answered the environment question pretty well

8:44 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

nuclear waste isnt very safe

8:45 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

what's wrong with mccain saying friend? is being too friendly really the only thing you can find to insult?

8:45 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

marnie. you don't know a thing about any of our parents or their political ideologies so that's an awfully big generalization.

8:45 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

tax cuts for big business result in fat bonuses for CEOs and executives, not jobs

8:45 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

mccain did a good job w/ the environmently q

8:46 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

and i can find plenty to insult thank you very much.

8:46 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

good point, elbaum is pretty liberal, he always focuses on the left side of the room

8:46 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

ha 30 year problem...hes been there for 26...why does he need to be president to make a change?

8:46 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

youre right it was a generalization, and some people are just purely ignorant, too

8:47 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i guess zolno and i aren't the only ones who think you're liberal elbaum.

8:47 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mac still having a hard time looking at Obama

By the way, Obama attacking Mac plenty tonight.

8:47 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

mccain vote against alternative fuels stat good... i agree our solution should not be to drill baby drill

8:47 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

hahahaha. Marnie that was a low blow. He's not even in the debate!!! Lol.

8:47 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

and what has obama done to promote alt. energy the last four years..nothing?

8:47 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

so not only are we brain washed liberals but we're ignorant too? nice.

8:47 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

and what has obama done to promote alt. energy the last four years..nothing?

8:48 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

seems like the moderator is kinda slamming obama! won't let him respond and wants him to quit talking!

8:48 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

way to diss half the people here without knowing us, marnie

8:48 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

isn't the moderator a big fan of obama?...

8:49 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

yeah the "my friends" thing is an attempt, but idk that it's working.
haha "you know who voted for it? That one"

interesting observation: i think both candidates are left-handed

8:49 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

agreed. you're generalizing who we are as people based off of a few comments we've written down.

8:49 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Obama's RIGHT. We CAN'T drill our way out of the problem.

8:49 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

predictions on whether Mac brings up Chicago corruption?

8:49 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Marnie fight for your rights, dont let the liberals take your rights away

8:50 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

...i was wondering if anyone has found any examples of Obama changing washington? or have you conceded that hes the same politician with a 'new' mask...im still waiting, or is everyone going to avoid this question

8:50 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

yes, but why are you saying 'we' it was just a generalization dont be so hard on yourself

8:50 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

The moderator seems to be helping Mac. Not cool.

8:50 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

so far on the cnn analyst cards obama is winning by a lot

8:50 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

it was sarcasm. i was only defending that the liberals had been generalized.

8:50 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

why is mccain walking around while obama is talking?

8:51 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Guaranteed E...I got my job at O'hare in a corrupt way haha

8:51 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Guaranteed E...I got my job at O'hare in a corrupt way haha

8:51 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i can't tell who is winning. they are both doing very well at certain parts

8:51 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Elbaum,
The story's too old. He can't make specific references because of its untimeliness. He made a comment about it earlier in the night but didn't get specific.

8:51 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

tommy, cnn is biased towards obama. i don't think that's the most reliable source.

8:52 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Watch the fair and balanced coverage on Fox News the offical channel of the 2008 elecetions

8:52 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's his senility. He got confused and forgot where he was. Lol

8:52 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

yes, good job, it was a gerneralization clearly i do not know every single liberal in the us or this blog..

i will add overly sensitvie to my list of generalizations

8:52 PM

Blogger ClaireT. said...

It really bothers me how bo keeps smirking while jm is speaking its kind of conceited, i mean honestly, so far his responses haven't been SUPERDUPERLY amazing or anything, and how come jm can't decide what to put first; education, economy, or energy. you have to prioritize, and you are obviously i don't think will be able to do all 3 @the same time.right now, america isn't the best, we were but now we're like ranked 23rd in math which is incredibly sad!!!!! =[ but i do think that jm wants to get us back to the way we used to be, but he isn't positive how.

8:53 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Elbaum a liberal? Maybe. Probably. But I think that in class, he tries to be fair and not "brainwash" ANYONE. In fact, I think he challenges the liberals more so than the conservatives.

8:53 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

haha marnie, brilliant

8:53 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

wow...all liberals must be the same...talk n talk, but dont back it up with their actions. i guess even obama fans cant find any examples of Obama changing something..someone just say that there are no examples

8:54 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

how come jm can't decide what to put first; education, economy, or energy. you have to prioritize

completely and totally agree

8:54 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

yes but the pundits aren't all liberal and they're the ones scoring

8:54 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

McCain can't claim that you shouldn't have government intervention and then say go across state lines. Interstate commerce can be regulated.

8:54 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i was kidding about elbaum being liberal and the left comment was a reference to a story he told about his student teaching..even tho he probably is

8:55 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jay,

He'll leave that to the ads like this one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6SCJTJimcg

8:55 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I can't keep up with comments and watch! Ugh. I wish this was like a chatroom or something... It would be much easier.

8:55 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Visit his class 1st period when he is wearing His Obama pin

8:55 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

McCain's health care plan is BS.
$5000 wont get anyone the right health care they need. It's not nearly enough money.

8:56 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

first of all.....mac has a full time smirk on....and second i won't sink to the level of generalizing other people. i'm going to talk about the debate...not people's ideologies.

8:56 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

THE MODERATOR IS HELPING MAC. WTH?!?!

8:56 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

how is one supposed to know what each candidates real policies are since all they both do is deny the way in which the other candidate explains his policies? ohh and i think he should have said "right" there and not "responsibiltiy" i'd bet obama will say right and people will like that.

8:56 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

1st period is not liberal are u kidding? we are clearly HEAVILY conservative... pfff

8:56 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i also heard elbaum supports kirk? true? if so i think that is really interesting, i hear he's a great guy..too moderate tho..basically a liberal
